Hi George

Just a quick response here....You are absolutely correct in assuming you should be receiveing an email notification when there has been a response to a posting of yours. That is if you have ticked yes in the box on your profile where this permission is recorded. I just checked your profile and it is ticked yes. Hmmmmm.... xmas:roll: ......we'll look into this further and see if there is a glitch. xmas:sad: One other thought occurs to me to ask....the emails will go to the account you registered with. Some folks run more than one email account and I just wanted to be sure that you were checking them all for the notification?

We'll work this out I'm sure..sorry for any inconvenience! xmas:smile:

Best wishes
Jean

Re 1881 census etc

Hi George,
You can rest easy as regards James STIRLING! - there were transcription errors; here are the correct details.
It's always worth looking at the original page of the LDS 1881 census if something "doesn't seem right".
==
1881 cens 644-1 Ed 49 p 1 (Barony - Bridgeton)
19 Franklin Street.
Elizabeth CARLYLE, head, widow, 62, ------------------------------- b Dailly, AYR
Elizabeth CARLYLE, daur, u/m 23, power loom weaver, cotton, b Kirkoswald, AYR
James STIRLING, boarder, u/m 22, labourer warehouse, b Ireland (deaf & dumb from birth)
==
But i can't see a Girvan born Elizabeth DICK or BLAIR (aged abt 77) in Glasgow/Lanarkshire or Ayrshire1861 to suit.
A bit of a mystery is Elizabeth, maybe the SP all Scotland index will find her?
Was daur Elizabeth (HUNTER) CARLYLE the informant on her 1871 DC?
Might be worth having a look at Elizabeth HUNTER's DC to see what it says for her parents?
==
This looks like Elizabeth HUNTER in 1851 before her marriage.
I've given all the details because of the BLAIR name - it's possibly just a coincidence though.

1851 cens 601 (486) Ed 10 p 5 (Kirkoswald)
Hollowshean.
James BLAIR, head, marr, 46, farmer of 200 acres emp 6 labourers, b Kirkoswald, AYR
Janet BLAIR, wife, marr, 56, ------------------ b Coylton, AYR
James BLAIR, son, u/m 25, farmer's son, b Coylton, AYR
Robert BLAIR, son, u/m 21, farmer's son, b Coylton, AYR
John BLAIR, son, 16, scholar, b Coylton, AYR
Jane BLAIR, daur, 14, scholar, b Coylton, AYR
Mathew BLAIR, son, 11, scholar, b Coylton, AYR
Elizabeth HUNTER, servant, u/m 30, dairymaid, b Dailly, AYR

&

Looking for Carlyle

Post by carlyleg » Fri Dec 23, 2005 7:43 am

Jack, thanks for your help. The info you found for James Stirling eases the mind. And the birthplace for Elizabeth is surely Dailly instead of Darly. I was reading from a typewritten transcript that obviously contained errors.

The Elizabeth Hunter on the 1851 census surely is the right one, as the age and birthplace match. Elizabeth Dick's father, Robert Blair, would have been much older than the Blairs shown on the 1851 and 1861 censuses. She died in 1871 at age 88, which suggest she was born around 1784. Her father must have been born 20 years or so before that. It could be the same family of Blairs though. Elzabeth (Hunter) Carlyle was the informant on Elizabeth Dick's DC. Place of death was Hutchesontown, Glasgow, 19 Oct 1871.

I haven't found Elizabeth Hunter Carlyle's date or place of death. If she inherited her mother's longevity, she could have died as late as the early 1900s.
