Hi maggie and Sally

The SP entry is truly indexed under CLIFFORD. The view surely looks like CLIFORT so not sure how they managed that. THere are no other examples of a capital O elsewhere on that page nor the page preceeding or following  . Since the online copy is somewhat indistinct I suggest you request a photocopy via a contact form. If that C can be shown to be an O.................

Maggie...do you have proof that William survived to 1851 and beyond?

I mean...according to Mary's MC in 1855 she had 4 living children and 3 deceased ones from her first marriage. I count Elisabeth, Robert, Archibald, and Samuel as 4 living. A jump of years between Samuel and William that may account for one, and then William and John making the 3.

Not sure if you have this data on Robert from the BIVRI....

OLIVER, Robert Christening
Gender: Male
Birth Date: 1 Jan 1837
Christening Date: 12 Mar 1837 Recorded in: Cumbrae, Buteshire, Scotland
Father: Samuel OLIVER
Mother: Mary GALBREATH
Source: FHL Film 1041083 Dates: 1729 - 1854

Best wishes
Jean

Hi Maggie,

Your census image is now approved in the TalkingScot Gallery. The software there wouldn't allow me to rotate it, so I hope your TIF image viewing porgram can do that for you.

All the best,

Ooh I see what you mean Jean and Maggie .

Hard to call it as anything other than Clifort . The onlu O I can see is the L in Samuel :) It definitely isn't Clifford , that I am certain of.

But the image does look it was either taken from a very faded original or just over exposed - I do hope that a paper copy may show a little more , but perhaps this family was just enumerated as Clifort and that's that ? Still, given the extra info on living/dead children from Mary's re-marriage , given that they were in Bute in 1845 and 1855 and can't be found anywhere else in Scotland under Oliver in 1851, given the matches on names , ages and places of birth etc etc ... I'm still hopeful its the right family.

Hello Sally
i think i will claim them as mine :) as everything else but surname matches what i am looking for .
Thanks once again Sally i have spent a small fortune hunting for them and i never would have got them without your help .Clifort is so far off the mark now if anyone out there is hunting for a Sheik from Bombay I've got him  i think that might just be another posting as to what strange names everyone has come accross!!!
kind regards maggie
