I've gone onto the scotlands people site and gone into the copy of the marriage registration - the one above has the ages of the people that got married - there aren't any ages against Alexander and Marion??? Nor are all of the parents listed - is this usual for a marriage in 1855???

Against Alexander is William Noble and what looks like Harriet?? Edmonstone.

Against Marion Logan is Thomas Blackie (Witness) and Margaret Crichton.

Hi Donna,

You don't happen to have a James Noble who married a Mary Kennedy by any chance? Their daughter Mary Kennedy Noble was born in West Lothian in 1897 and went on to marry one of my ancestors - Bernard Corr in Glasgow in 1917. They also had another daughter, Margaret.

The reason I asked is that the names Logan and Noble are both in my tree, but separate sides of my maternal line. Still...perhaps the Logans, Corrs and the Nobles knew each other and intermarried as a result.

Just speculating, but I like to follow up when two of my closely affiliated family names are mentioned.

All the best,

Nina

Well, what I posted there is almost all I know...except that James Noble was an Iron Moulder's Labourer and he died before 1915. His wife Mary Kennedy Noble died after 1915.

Of course if you do find a connection, I will let you have the details of Margaret Kennedy Noble/Bernard Corr's two children that I know of and a few other things...

I haven't looked this family up on any censuses, as they were not my direct line, but it may help you in the future anyway.

Hi Donna
What site address are you using for the IGI records?
IGi is at:

Usually marriage entries give the ages of the bride and groom. I'm not sure how unusual it is for this not to be mentioned. As for parents, I supppose it depends on the information the registrar was given - he can only write down what he is told....

Edmonstone is a name which occcurs in Leith area - I'd be interested in anything you might find out about your Harriet as I have a distant Edmonstone in my tree - James b. abt 1770, shipmaster in Leith d. October 1825.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Lesley

Turns out what I thought was Harriet was actually Janet Edmonstone. All I know so far is that she was married to William Noble he was listed as a Pilot seaman. Janet and William were the parents of Alexander Noble who was born around 1834.

I don't know much more than that at this stage.

Regards
Donna

Forgot to mention re. the Freecen records - not all the areas are on line yet. To check for an area go to:
http://freecen.rootsweb.com/statistics.html
Certainly a lot of my Leith lot are not there yet.

Best wishes
