Hi Jack,
You've come up trumps for me yet again!
I think the two addresses refer to the same place though as on Roberts DC in 1870 his address was listed as Ladyburn, Port Glasgow Road, Greenock. While on his second wifes DC in 1872 the address is Marshalls Land, Ladyburn, Greenock. Looks like the two EDs overlapped!
Thanks to you though I now have his place of birth and within the last few minutes I've been able to find his first marriage and the births of his 2 sons on the IGI. It makes it a lot easier when you know where to look, especially with a name like Scott !
Thanks again Jack

Pretty sure this was a "Flitting". Ladyburn is one street up from Port Glasgow Road.
Reckon the first enumerator arrived early, did the head count, the family moved house, literally down the road, and the next enumerator turned up.
Remember in those days there were no half day holidays and the only day off was a Sunday so loads of house moves would have happened on the only day off, which happened to be the same day as the census.
I have loads of instances where rellies moved for short periods (rent arrears?) only to arrive back at their original house a few months later.
I am in no doubt that the two entries for Robert Scott, 46, Widower, Tanner born in Inverkip is the same person but also know there wasn't an overlap on districts and that Ladyburn and Port Glasgow Road, while close, are two distinct locations.
Like I said I have come across this before but it gives a special insight into the movements of those people on that partucular day. While normal census entries will give the address you now know that while other folk were having a, well deserved, lie-in on the only day off your lot were moving their, probably meagre, possessions to a new house along the cobbled street that is still there between Ladyburn and Port Glasgow Road.

Searching for Keogh, Kelly, Fitzgerald, Riddell, Stewart, Wilson, McQuilkin, Lynch, Boyle, Cairney, Ross, King, McIlravey, McCurdy, Drennan and Woods (to name but a few).
Also looking for any information on Rathlin Island, County Antrim, Ireland.

Hi Andy,
Thanks very much for clarifying that. Hiowver I've just found something that confuses things further !
I was taking a closer look at the search results I got from SP for Robert Scotts in Greenock in the 1851 census and I think my family is recorded 3 times! There is a Robert Scott (46) and a Robert Scott (19) at all 3 of these locations:
564/00 021/00 012
564/00 131/00 003
564/00 023/00 003
I think Jack might have found the top two, but that stills leaves the third one and there's no image available on SP.
Can anyone help clear this up ?
