Hmmm, not their usual standard of service, that's for sure. From what Andrew has said these are NOT extracts, but the same kind of form as available online, but kept in another book. I don't see why it should cost more just because the registrar ran out of room in a prescribed register!

I will let you know how I get on. Thanks for the reply.

The certificates in a supplementary book are exactly the same form as are in a standard book. It is where the registrar ran out of pages in the book(s) that he had ordered for that year. He then must have had to order in a supplementary book of certificates to allow him to keep issuing certificates for the remainder of the year. The supplementary books start the numbering sequence at "1" again, hence duplicating the certificate numbers for each one used in a supplementary book.

All the best,

for what it's worth I enquired about a death cert with no image available (no x in the number as above so presumably just a bog standard DC)

Reply from SP was

If an image from after 1855 is not online, there is a reason for this. It
may be that the original is quite damaged therefore digitising it can worsen
its condition or it may be so illegible that to put it online would be
pointless as it would be unreadable.

In these circumstances, it is unlikely that images of this nature will ever
go online as there are genuine reasons for them not to be there in the first
place.

If you order an extract and it is not possible for one of the above , or
another reason , for GROS to send this to you, they will advise you of this
and refund your payment.

Make of that what you will - you can try ordering but it may not be worth it.
