It wouldn't be Elia that is escaping you perhaps? I see an Elizabeth at IGI that fits, which means yet another transcription mistake if so...

Hi Nina

Wee Elizabeth aka "Elia" - presumably "Eliza", - isn't the problem 1 of the 4 !!

Well David can you please tell me who I am likely to have trouble with so I don't go wasting copious credits?

You know, I think the enumerator or the household were on the funny juice on the night of the census as there are a quite a few more errors than I have seen before! Added to the poor transcription (or hard to read writing!) and it has made this family a puzzle.

I will look for Annie later in the day, but chances are that she may have been named something else judging by the other mistakes.

Jack....can you please tell me if young James aged 1 was listed in the household of Thomas senior or junior? I have a contact with another person researching this family who have a James McGinlay b about 1879 to an elder daughter Ann, who married a James McGinlay, just to complicate things, and I am wondering now who the actual parents of THIS James are! There was also an elder brother John.

A very confusing family here!

Hi Nina,
I coudn't say - i was only looking at Thomas senior & junior.
But very possibly James age 1, as G-son, is with Thomas senior.
Thomas junior at 28 should be too young to be a GF!
and even if his age was 38, that would be a very doubtful too; but not impossible...
But i'll check the original page at one point to make sure who he's with.
[now checked - definitely with Thomas senior, who's age might be 66; and Thomas junior 26?]

ps, there is also this family...but i dare say you have them.

And unless Gr-son James 1 is the illegitimate son of one of the other daurs,
there's always the chance that he's been accidentally recorded at both houses?
But this is only a guess....
