Hi Janet

The fact that the BIVRI discs show David's birth (the IGI doesn't) helps to convince me that the submissions could be correct.

Just wish they had shown George's birth and that would have been conclusive!!!!

Thanks very much

Jean

Hello Jean,

George gave his birthplace as Eastfield in the 1891 census. Eastfield was in Rutherglen.

Sorry, can't help with "Catfel" though :?

Kind regards,

Alison

Thanks Allison. So that confirms Rutherglen.

Sooooooooo what we have now is as follows:-

I have George Sneddon's d.c. in 1894 showing parents as James Sneddon and "blank" Burt.

I have his wife's d.c. (Margaret Proudfoot) in 1884 showing parents as William Proudfoot and Margaret Aitchison.

I have an IGI marriage for James Sneddon and Rachel Burt in 1806.

I have children (IGI) for James Sneddon and Rachel Burt as:-

Helen born 1811
Janet born 1813
BIVRI discs show a son David born 1818

George married Margaret Proudfoot in 1841. Their children (IGI) as follows:-

1st Child James (presumably after George's father)
2nd Child Margaret(presumably after Margaret's mother)
3rd Child William(presumably after Margaret's father)
4th Child Rachel(Named after George's mother?)
5th Child Helen(Named after George's sister?)
6th Child Janet(Named after George's other sister?)
7th Child George(Named after himself. presumably)
8th Child David(Named after his brother?)
9th and 10th children are John and Richard. Don't know who they are named after. Perhaps they just ran out of names!

Sooooooo is George Sneddon the son of James Sneddon and Rachel Burt?

Just to add a spanner in the works...In 1841 George and Margaret are married and living with them is a David Sneddon, aged 71. Is this George's grandfather or Uncle or an extra added into the cast

Over to the experts. What do you make of this?

Jean

burts

Hi Jean
I too have Burts in my tree, and most often have found them listed a Bird or Birt. Sneddon is also my main line, variations Snadden, Snaddon, Sneddon Snedden etc.......its always a nightmare for me too!
Good luck!

Hi:

Wonder if there is any connection of your SNEDDON to ours.

We have a Joseph Sneddon who married Elizabeth Robertson 23. 9. 1820
disclosed as occurring in Lasswade.
The Sneddon clan seemed to be very proud of bearing large families.

 :?:
