Hi Grace,

My understanding of SP is that if you submit a "forgotten password" request, the syatem issues you a new password, a random selection of numbers and letters rather than a recognisable word.

As the system managed to send a new password to your correct e-mail address, it obviously recognises your username. For whatever reason it claims not to be happy with your password.

One of the regular answers given in these situations is for you to clear out your "temporary internet files" and your cookies. Both of these should be available under "Tools", "Internet Options" from your toolbar if you are using Internet Explorer. There will be an equivalent function in other browser programs.

Then try ScotlandsPeople again using the new password. When you do finally get into ScotlandsPeople, you can go into your profile and set your password back to something more meaningful to you - your original password or something else.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Grace
I had the same problem as you a few weeks ago and submitted a contact and also got a new pass-word, I eventually found out that it was my fault as I had entered my user name incorrectly, that is I forgot that first letter had capital, but before I realised that I had written a letter complaining that I could no longer access my previous images and ended up with two accounts, so had to send E-mail admitting my mistake and apologising which was accepted, I am not saying that that is your problem, but I was so certain that I had entered everything correctly.
Regards Rita.

problems logging on

Post by Grace Carrick » Sun Feb 11, 2007 1:59 pm

Thanks to everyone for their replies. Well, I can't really understand why I didn't get in to start with as my username and password are set in to the system, and I've been using it for years. Now I've probably been too hasty in sending on a message to SP and I just hope I am not now going to get all sorts of problems, ah well, thats just another of these blips us genealogy buffs have to put up with! Will certainly take a note of all your suggestions for solving the problem, thanks again.

It is now almost a week since I tried to uplift an OPR Birth.
I still cannot access it as there is no VIEW BUTTON appearing on my screen.
Apart from an auto reply to a contct form I have heard nothing. FRUSTRATING.
So there are obvious problems !

Cheers.

Hi Maureen
Not sure at what point your view problem is appearing but if this is relevant, it may be an idea, if you have not already tried it, to change the way you view images to direct download. This side-steps any problems with the Java or Direct X viewers, both of which seem to "have their moments" !
You can change this in your profile on SP.

Best wishes

Hi all,
I can not get into view anything other than those that I have already saved or are previous searches.
There is NO VIEW BUTTON on the screen when I do any
new searches.
My new search will come back with "yes there are x ammount on x page/s" but I can't access them.
I have been able to view already saved searches for OPRs and used up current credits but nothing NEW.

Cheers,
Maureen

Hi Maureen
Have you cleared out your temporary internet files recently? If not, that might be worth trying.
I have even tried to copy the page from S P to display here
but it won't work.
If you take a screen pic that should work - use the "Print Screen" key then paste it into an imaging program and save it.

Best wishes
