I'll go for:
  • (Vol V )
    Page 92.
    Register of Corrected Entries
for the District of St Andrew
    in the Burgh of Dundee
    ---------------------------
In the fourth column of Entry No 1911 in the Register Book
of Births for the year 1884 before the name of the Child's Mother
insert James Grieg, Cab Proprietor, on the authority of a Certificate
in the form of Schedule (F) to the following effect:-

In an action relating to the paternity of a male child
named _________ born December 19 1884 at the instance of
Ann Duff, Powerloom Weaver, No 5 Laing Street, Dundee
against James Grieg, Cab Proprietor, No 89 Mary Street,
Dundee, the Sheriff Court of Forfarshire (Dundee District) on the
9th day of January 1885 found that the said child was the
illegitimate child of the parties aforesaid.

    January 27th at Dundee

Apart from the names, addresses, dates and the like, the wording is of a standard format that can be found in all paternity RCEs of that era.

All the best,

AndrewP

Thanks for all the help especially for deciphering the RCE.

It sheds new light on my mystery and something else for me to chase.

Thanks again.
