Hi everyone,

What an interesting discussion. And yet again it just shows how you never know what you're going to find out next.

I followed the link that Frances left a few days ago using my great-grandfathers middle name Cassels, as I have no idea as yet where that name comes from.

My great-grandfather's full name was Charles Cassels Grieve - so you can imagine my surprise to find a child was born in February 1871 to William Tulloch and Ann Cunningham. This child was called Charles Cassels Grieve Tulloch. #-o

All I can say is I presume that my great-grandfather was William Tulloch's employer! How else can you explain my great-grandfather's exact name being given to a child?

Any Tullochs out there who know anything? [help]

Best wishes
Claudette

My great-great-grandfather had twin sisters born in Glasgow in 1841:

Marion Logan Georgina Dyer, and
Eliza Scott Robina Dyer.

Marion Logan is the paternal grandmother. They have an uncle named George. None of the other names seems to show up anywhere else on either side of the family, though I haven't completely given up looking...

Hi Mark,
Are you sure that "Mrs. Dyer" age 70 down the street in 1841 didn't have the maiden name Eliza Scott? She has John Dyer age 3 with her-- babysitting while the parents tried to deal with the twins? I'm just making this up :D
Or perhaps "Widow Scott" age 70 down the street in 1841 was actually named Eliza? I'm sure you've checked all these already... I see the twins' father's name was Robert, so that part is explainable!
I'm sure you'll find out one day who was responsible for that name!
Cheers,
Sarah

Oops. I didn't realize how long it had been since I check in here.

I've convinced myself that Mrs. Dyer down the way is Marion Logan, the grandmother of the twins. The John living with her is a cousin of the twins, son of John and Isabel who also had a girl named Marion in 1841 and they are also living near by.

My Great-Grandparents followed the tradition & named their 2nd son Robert Greer McKimmie after his Mother's Father. She was a "Daddy's" girl & my Granny was very fond of him too-less keen on her Granny.
Well wee Robert died & they had no more boys but the 2nd youngest girl was named Robertina Greer McKimmie for her Grandpa & The youngest was named Katherine Greer following the death of the eldest daughter who was also Katherine Greer.
