Soo,
I live in England but my family live in Glasgow so can they buy a startup and top-up voucher on my behalf and e-mail the codes off the back of the card to me for my use? Even if I have to set up a new SP account to use them.
I am after all doing the research on behalf of the whole family, not just myself.

Hi all,I bought these vouchers when they were first introduced in my local library which must be well over two yrs ago now,and did not have to use the start up one in the library.Had to show I was a member of library and then new account was set up through renfrewshire library and went home very happy and got started
Bought further topups at £4-80.I also got one in my late hubbys name, only had to show his library card and proof of address. My daughter then did the same although its me who uses them all,I seem to be only one interested in genealogy or saving a few BOB

I have a friend (it's not me, honest) who buys only initial vouchers - after all 60 credits for £6 is a lot better value than top-up at £4.80 for 30 credits. She says you do have to keep a very careful note of all the usernames & passwords & what you looked up on each one so that you can go back if necessary. I'm not organised enough for that I'm afraid, I just buy top-ups at the only 2 libraries in Edinburgh that have them - NLS & the Edinburgh Central Library which are opposite each other & less than half a mile from NRH - is this sensible

That sounds waaay too complicated for me - I have difficulty enough sometimes finding past searches in my own one account even with the search facilites etc!!!She says you do have to keep a very careful note of all the usernames & passwords & what you looked up on each one so that you can go back if necessary.
Best wishes

All genealogists have a duty, by fair means or foul, to wring as much information as possible out those organisations holding our family information to ransom. Multiple usernames are perfectly legitimate, there’s no mention of any objection to same on the SP site. I would certainly be buying the 60 credit vouchers exclusively given the opportunity. Remember that all’s fair in Love and Genealogy.
Especially considering how SP sucks up the cash and how much of that is wasted because of inadequacies in the search and results thereof and how so many millions of its profits have been lashed out recently on the purchase of large genealogical organisations and highly profitable monopoly census rights etc. elsewhere.
None of these profits have been spent on improving the generally poor quality BMD certificate images or on the project to add the mother’s maiden surname to the death indexes and so on. SP seem to be about as interested in such things as they are in the User Group apparently now as good as dead.
The availability of data by way of previous search and paid image lists etc. fits in very nicely with the monopoly of Scottish BMD and Census images in making users site dependent and together with the credit system was probably dreamed up by a psychologist.
That’s the truth,
Alan

I may have been guilty of repeating a search previously performed - but I never depend on someone else storing my BDM images. Any certificate/opr I have accessed is kept in my own private files. Losing a copy online would not bother me at all. If you find these vouchers being sold in Oz, do please pass on the information Alan.Currie wrote:All genealogists have a duty, by fair means or foul, to wring as much information as possible out those organisations holding our family information to ransom. Giving credit when due, however, nowhere can one purchase a cheaper certificate image than on SP. I can buy five, for the cost of 1 in Australia & with the current exchange rate that will soon be six.

I wish there were vouchers to SP here in Canada. I paid 11 pounds sterling in the eighties for certificates which was about 25.00 dollars Canadian then. Over the years I have spent a small fortune on my genealogy vice, but still using SP credits 30 for 6 pounds sterling if I am careful in what I am buying is good value.
