1851 Census - The Continuing Saga .....

Thank you Andrew but in this case it is odd.

This woman is alone with these children. I have a rocord in 1853 of Margret Macrae, the 7 year old) when she records both parents deceased. Then in in 1858 she marries and states her father Donald deceased and her mother Ann Macrae. No mention of her mother being deceased here. All very complicated, still looking for the death of Ann Macrae with no success to date.

The 1851 census has been released for testing to the User Group members. It's not really fully ready yet in terms of county and RD info, but at least lets us have a look at the quality of the images, and, as far as is possible, the quality of the indexing.

As the saying goes "Good question "

No timescale has been given to the User Group. Based on past experience, it's likely that the User Group will be given a week. We're likely to be a tad upset if it's less than a week as we all have other things to do at weekends. It's not so bad if we're given advance warning that we're going to be given access starting on a Sat or Sun, but there was not such advance warning on this occasion.

Plus the fact that the county/registration district info is not yet fully complete, but that really shouldn't be a factor on the part of UG testing.

Assuming that major problems don't crop up, then I'd have hoped that "February" as currently shown on SP could still be met, but that is very much a hope, and not a promise.

Surely the key issue here is information (or lack of it) I'm sure i'm not alone in frequently checking the site for the expected update only to be frustrated by a complete lack of information as to the delay. It cannot be beyond the wit of man to post something under data announcements saying something like " we apologise for the delay. we anticipte data going on line in x number of weeks" and then we all wouldn't keep checking the site for non existant data.
