I'm not sure this will be beneficial but I almost convinced myself that I too had images that were coming up at 5 credits due when I knew that I had viewed them before. You see I have a rather shamefully large file of previous searches and another one of viewed images on their site. Only after SP started having shut down problems and then closing the DG did I start to panic and say to myself...I gotta get all these things into a place that I can control!!! I had paper copies of everything I really wanted but now I've started the arduous task of going through them all again...saving to my hard drive what I definitely want to save, printing out "Unknowns" for the that swelling file folder, and generally tidying up and dumping the searches that were really wild goose chases. Just today I came onto a section in the Previous Search dept of images that I knew I had purchased before but they all were coming up 5 credits due!! I started making a list feeling rather triumphant that I too had been cheated by SP....but then I got to thinking.....and then I went searching.....and then I figured out that one of the previous times I had been working on this arduous task....I saw fit to delete the viewed images that I now had copied onto disk and also hard copy. I however never went through all the searches that got me to those specific images to delete the searches too  Sooooo....you see....you can even trick yourself with these things!! So far I don't think i've lost anything that I can tell....except maybe a few marbles.....

I followed what you said Jean but I haven't deleted or tidied anything yet.I guess I'll just have to print everything I view even if it turns out to be an "opps" incase it should prove valuable later.I wonder what will cost more, all the paper and ink or reviewing images I purchased but didn't print because they didn't fit at the time.(I hope no one wants to hear the TV this weekend )

Thanks for the advice - I'm now ploughing through 25 pages of viewed images and saving them to my computer!!!!

(So far I have not noticed any missing. Am cross referencing them with my printed off files and working from the beginning forward)

I'll be lifting my head in about 3 weeks I think!

Ho Hum serves me right for not doing it properly in the first place.

Cheers

Ellen.

I just gave myself the fright of my life. 106 pages of viewed images that's WELL over £2000 worth at a pound a time!!!!!! Not including the 17 pences (16.666...) per search to FIND the records in the first place.

Think I'm going to have to join Genealogists Anonymous.

Missing imaages

Post by Maud Jarvis » Tue Jun 07, 2005 3:52 pm

Hi
Just having a nosey (as usual!) and dome across this entry, I had not thought of checking, I know there are images (or should be) from 2002
but today, was looking for a particular marriage, I already have the print out, but wanted to see the image again, to blow it up to try and decipher one of the words.

I have nearly gone cross eyed looking for this marriage, at the moment, I`m putting it down to my rotten eyesight, so will ask my son to check for it this evening or tomorrow for me, and if he cannot find it, wll let you know it is missing/

I have not thought of checking the images before, but until today did not have reason to look for one again, glad I had this nosey, has put me on the alert.

I`ve also just noticed that the whole site has completely changed, I was quite surprised, perhaps a mention has been made of this, but I have not noticed it until now.

I thought at first the message on here was referring to an image not coming on sometimes when paying credits, this has happened several times to me, and I`ve had to complain about it, Must say though, that eventually I would obtain it without further payment, but it is a bit of a nuisance at the time.
Seeking any descendents from Ezekiel McCulloch, Port Glasgow, also Neil Barr (Greenock)

Hi Maud,

Since the release of the new SP website last week, a number of issues have been raised. The problem you list is one of them. Marriages searched for in 2002, 2003 and 2004 are giving a problem, where the parts of the original search criteria are missing, and the resultant certificate is not found. In reply to a contact form, I was advised that a "fix" will be installed during this week.

All the best,

Andrew Paterson

 I recognise many of you from Sp forum and have a lot to thank you for. I was so inept when I first started to search for my family and would have got nowhere without you. However thanks to you I have now traced many family members back to the 18thc and found some I never expected to find. Still hoping to find more

Downloading images

Post by Liz Turner » Tue Feb 21, 2006 9:57 pm

Slightly embarrassed to admit I hadn't thought about my images disappearing.  I haven't printed all my images because in my naivity I thought they'd always be there!! I reckon I've got quite a number and would hate to lose them.
Can anyone advise on the best way to save them to my PC?

I´ve already been given a dressing down for not saving properly by those with at least mates´ tickets here, the printer has been working overtime since, but like you there are "some" images unsaved, and I need more than a few hands to count them. We´re all (or some) in the same boat..... :(

Good saving, and printing; (personally, I don´t trust these memory stick things)

It is 100% the intention of GROS/SoL that an image, once paid for, will forever thereafter be available on the site in "Viewed Images", with the search that led to that under "Previous Searches".

I'm sure that there's an extremely good chance that this will be the case.

But, - let's put it this way, - I'm sure that you are all equally certain that your house won't burn down, so why do have insurance :?:
