Nina very interested in your Mary Gault.My GGGGreat-Grandmother was Mary Ann Gault-father Benjamin Gault & all living in Colmonell Ayr 1841(by this time she was married to James Brown).She is unsure of her birth place giving Ireland or Ayrshire on different documentation.Benjamin & his other daughter are no longer around in the 1851 Census but her children are living in Ayr with paternal grandparents & one son with strangers so presuming she died. Any info on other family in the area? I have never found her birth.

Hi Joette,

I have no information about Mary Ga(u)lt other than she was named as wife to John Gemmell, Alexander Gemmell's father, on Alexander's death registration in 1907. Both John Gemmell and Mary were deceased at the time, and I haven't found them in Scotland, although I may not have looked very hard - been a while now! I do know that Alexander their son gives his birthplace as Co. Antrim on the 1855 birth registration of his daughter Jane, and also again on the 1881 census. So maybe start there?

Main family lines are Harpers from Midlothian, Fife & Kinross-shire, and Dobies/Dobbies from Midlothian. Also Strathearn, Stobie, Layden and Downie.
