Hi Scott
I have some copies of the gazettes - not really any more information, but if you would like same for your files, PM an email address - or a snail mail address if you want the hard copies.
Probably the only thing of extra interest was the abscondment - there were about 15 folks absconded from said ship - might not have been the best place to work perhaps!

Hi Scott

All references for unclaimed letters -
the first 3 Aug 1848,,just said c/- Post Office.
the second 30 Apr 1850 was c/- Jas Weir,Sydney
the third 1 Nov 1853 was 102 Princes Street,The Rocks so at least that gives an address

Hi,
I have just joined this site. I live in Tasmania so thought I would look up the Archives Tasmania site.
Here is the link: http://portal.archives.tas.gov.au/menu.aspx?search=11
I found a John Wishart came to Tassie in 1845.
If you like I could visit the Archives and get a copy of the record for you.
Cheers,
Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,
That's a very kind offer, and as emanday has said: 'Welcome'!
I had not considered that it might be a possibility that my GGGG Grandfather may have returned to the UK, got into another spot of bother, and found himself being transported again to another part of the colonies.
I notice that this particular John was tried in Edinburgh, and wonder if this is him on the NAS catalogue?
'Precognition against John Wishart for the crime of robbery, or theft, habit and repute at Nethergate, Street, Dundee'
I have indexes of all the Wisharts in the 1841 and 1851 census returns, and notice that of all the John Wisharts who are resident in Dundee in 1841, are all still there in 1851 (bar one or two who died). Furthermore, my GGGG Grandmother did end up living in Dundee around 1843. It could all be too neat a solution to be true, and would be grateful if there was anything further you might find about this John.
Thank you again for posting on this thread.

Hi Scooter
I went to the Archives today.
Unfortunately, the John Wishart was only 18 in 1845 when he was transported. He was from Fifeshire (????).
Sorry I couldn't be of any help.
Cheers,
Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,
I really appreciate you taking the time to look this up for me. A pity it wasn't my man, and this now takes the total to four different John Wisharts who were transported to the colonies! I've made a note of this John just in case he turns out to be a distant relation somewhere down the line.
Many thanks again,
Scott
