Marilyn,

Got yours today and wini's is on the way. Thanks so much and thanks to the people at Grace Church too!
Hi Carol,

Good I'm glad they arrived in one piece. I'll pass your appreciation on to Grace Church on Monday.

A bigamist you say

Three cheers to Wini for helping you along. Its all part of the game Carol, don't worry about other folk helping you along, we wouldn't do it if we didn't want to. For me, I think its pretty cool to get a record for someone who lives thousands of miles away and can't get their hands on it for months.

One day about a week ago I had emails going out and coming in from three different continents! I enjoy that too!

As for the bigamist, he went to jail for 4 months. Maybe this is one reason why I haven't been able to find some of the birth and marriage certificates that I've looked for!

Hi Carol,

I've had the same experience myself and I agree it can be thrilling beyond belief. :D

Carol,
I have been really delighted to be of some help to you. You must be the very first person I have been able to do something for and it has given me a big thrill.

wini,

I'm pleased to be your first "case"! I've been able to help a couple of people and that's the other half of being a part of Talking Scot. I enjoy that half too and all those new "puzzles".

Hi Carol,

Just hung up the phone with Grace Cemetery and they weren't able to find ither the burial record or a stone for the baby. I've asked them to e-mail me the picture of the section where the babies are buried, but due to some vandalism caused in the cemetery this past weekend, it may take a week or so until the caretaker can e-mail it to me.

Regards
Marilyn

Thanks again, Marilyn!

What in the world is wrong with people that they can't find something to do besides vandalize property--especially graveyards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Carol,

Well its been over a week and still no picture from Grace Cemetery, so I'll ring them up again soon...

Tonight I did a reverse address lookup on www.bigyellow.com for some phone numbers of the following address's and none were listed, which didn't surprise me, because they would be apartment houses.
8 Norwich, 60 Davis, 20 Hollis and 83 Willow and here are the results.

On the flip side, I did a mapquest on the same address's and

With the 20 Hollis & 83 Willow address's you'll notice "Grace Cemetery" off to the right. To me it would certainly explain why "baby clerihew" was buried in this cemetery.

MapQuest found a similar location for "60 Davis, Providence, RI". Please select or revise your search.

My mum grew up on Gordon Avenue, which was two streets over from the Norwich address, so she'll be able to guide me through this area.

60 Davis seems to be the area of the new Amtrack Station in downtown Providence?

And the Hollis & Willow streets are very close in proximity to Grace Cemetery.

Marilyn

Hi Marilyn,

I just took your tour of downtown Providence! I thought that Grace Church might be something of a "neighborhood" church for my grandparents. They hadn't been in this country very long when they had this first baby.

My grandparents and great aunts were city people so I'm not surprised that they lived in this area. What does surprise me is Uncle Alexander Longmuir who lived at the Norwich address, I think, until sometime in the 1920's. He was only 9 months old when my 2x great grandmother Janet/Jessie Milne Longmuir died of typhus fever in 1855. He was given to his uncle William and aunt Janet Longmuir to raise on a farm out in Banffshire. I'm not sure how he ended up living in downtown Providence as a traveling dry goods salesman?!

I just found his mother's family, what little of it there was apparently. His maternal grandfather William Milne had died before 1841, cause unknown. His maternal grandmother Mary Gordon Milne apparently died after the 1851 Census but before the 1855 records. His aunt Robertson Milne had two children out of wedlock and died in 1873 of TB in the Peterhead Poorhouse where her children continued to live until they were 18 years old. His aunt Martha disappears after 1851 but she might have married. I haven't found a death certificate on her yet. Alexander's only sister Isabella married George Clerihew and had my grandfather and his siblings in Aberdeen all of whom ended up at Alexander's house on Norwich as their first stop after they emigrated to the USA!

Thanks for continuing the hunt!
