Does anybody know what details are held in the Mitchell Library police records.
We have an ancestor who was a police constable in the Glasgow police around 1890-1910.
Does it have any information about his parents?

Hi Les,
Until someone with more experience comes along, have a look here?
http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/en/Residents/ ... chives.htm
This will give you an idea for now...
The registers vary in amount of biographical detail but may include:
name
age
place of birth
date of appointment
marital status and issue
height
addresses
career progression, if any
Don't see any mention of parents names, but you never know!
Regards,
Anne H

Hello Les,
I sent off for the police personel records of my grandfather from the Mitchell a few weeks ago. The information on the sheets I received was tabulated as follows:
Previous employment
Age
Height
Place & date of birth
Married/single
No. children
Present address
Date of appointment, promotion, reduction, transfer, resignation, dismissal, death or superannuation.
Date of reports against and marks in favour of.
How disposed of, if fined the amount.
He was married when he joined, but there isn't even a mention of his wife's name. Certainly no mention of parents
