Which ship

Post by crayspond » Wed Nov 14, 2007 5:51 am

I have finally found out where my gt grandfather disappeared to in America thanks to the help of SarahND. It was Hartford Connecticut - originally Massachusetts.
It says he left c1887 and was living in Glasgow at the time - i think he may have went out to stay with an Uncle.
My question is what type of ship would he have went on and would it have stopped in Mass before New York? Where do you start to look?
His wife would have been with him so it would have been
David Beveridge and Rachel Beveridge.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Ailsa,
I'm pretty sure that's David on the Boston Passenger List arriving 14 April, 1887. Final destination Palmer, Mass. He came over on the Siberian. You might be able to find something on the ship by googling.

Rachel must have come separately. I'd look, but my mother-in-law is visiting and I have to run...
Regards,
Sarah

Hi Ailsa, it looks like the Siberian was a steamer owned by the Allan Line, and regularly crossed the Atlantic judging by other requests for info. on Rootsweb. There is also a paragragh in the New York Times about her safe arrival after being somewhat overdue in 1886, delayed by fog and icebergs.

Courtesy of Google!
