Help with occupation 1861 census

Hi All,

After a big struggle by me, Frances had downloaded a certificate for me, thank you again Frances

Mary Brown, living in Aberdeen with children Ann and Robert, I can't make out the occupation, it looks like steam? somethings wife, her husband Joseph, is not there, he is also missing from the 1871 census, I wondered if it was to do with the sea, as she is not a widow, I wonder if it is to do with the sea?
I also, can't read the street name.

Hi Annie
The image is there , but something seems to have happened to the quality of it: it seems a bit fuzzy and it is not possible to zoom in and see things more clearly.
How do you view the images on SP - do you use direct download or are ou using the java viewer which I think is the default setting?

Perhpas someone from the Aberdeen area will be able to help with the street. As to the occupation, I'm afraid with the current image and at this time in the morning, it is beyond me!

You are right, it is fuzzy, I will have to check what I use, I have had problems since I downloaded my camers software, thank you for adding it anyway.

Yes it is really fuzzy but after a wee bit of fiddling around I'd go for merchant seaman's wife but I may just be seeing what I want to see.

That is the line I was thinking on Annette, but its also what I want it to be!!
He was a Lath Splitter in 1881? have not sussed that one out yet either.

Leslie I am using Active X TO view on Scotlandspeople.

Try changing to direct download and see if that helps.

I tried Direct Download and I can veiw the same, it seems to be when I send the certifcate that it goes a bit fuzzy.

I am still not sure of her (or hence her husband's) occupation - could be Steam Boat Fisherman's Wife.

I'd agree with Steam Boat fisherman's wife, and I can also say that the street is Marischal Street.

It's Marischal Street - this street runs from the junction of Union Street and King Street at the Castlegate down to the harbour.
