If you are intending to visit the Royal Humane Society, may I enlist your assistance please? I am seeking any data from RHS Case No. 44016.
A “James McCreadie” was awarded the Royal Humane Society (RHS) Bronze Medal (RHS Case No. 44016) as 2nd Officer of SS Baron Jedburgh for an incident at sea which occurred on 28 Jan 1918.
I believe this gentleman to be my great-uncle (born 1889 - Masters Certificate No. 007464, issued Glasgow, 1917) who lived in Saltcoats, Ayrshire and vessels named "Baron ....." were usually those of Hogarth Shipping, Ardrossan, Ayrshire. Ardrossan lies immediately north of Saltcoats.
I would be extremely grateful for ANY data from the file.
Sincerely
VISITING ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY?

Hi Jim
Have you tried contacting them? It looks like they would be able to send you a photocopy of the relevant files as they seem to offer this serivce. £15 seems pretty good value to me for that info.

Hello Jim,
Here’s a New York Times article concerning a serious fire on the “Baron Jedburgh” in N.Y. Harbour, 21 August 1917. Click the pdf for full article.

VISITING ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY?
Aye Alan and thanks - that is the vessel but not the incident.
There were two "James McCreadie" Merchant Navy officers at the time, my great-uncle and a second from (if memory serves me correctly) Hartlepool. Hence, my reluctance to purchase UNTIL the recipient is identified as my great-uncle.
