I have some Armestrong's who arrived to Maryland aboard the ship the "Gales". Does anyone know of the place this ship departed from to arrive to the Maryland Coast in the 1600's?
Thanks

Hello,
Welcome to Talking Scot!![[talkingscot] [talkingscot]](./images/smilies/talkingscot.png)
What sort of record did you find with the ship name on it? Are you confident that the name is correct? I can't find any mention of such a ship, but that's not too surprising, given the distance in time!
Perhaps someone will come along soon who knows more.
All the best,
Sarah

Hi dmac7s:
I suspect that there is a mis-transcription in the information because I recognize the source from many years of library work.
The Gale Publishing Group has been publishing passenger lists for decades, and displays 'Gale's Passenger and Immigration Lists' on the covers.
Immigration, Maryland will likely be a section in the index or book that cites the source of the information for ARMSTRONG in 1657.
'Liber Q Folio 204 See Q, fol 201' May be the source of the information - perhaps be a Folio/Fonds/Folder (a collection of loose papers) in a certain library.
It would be best to locate a copy of these books (most larger libraries will have them), to determine exactly wher the information is, along with an explanation of the Abbreviations for such things as 'Liber Q' (possibly Liberty Queen?)and folio etc.
From the Library of Congress - the book titles are:
1) Passenger and immigration lists bibliography, 1538-1900 : being a guide to published lists of arrivals in the United States and Canada /
Gale Research Co., c1981. ISSN: 0736-8267
2) Passenger and immigration lists index : a guide to published arrival records of about 500,000 passengers who came to the United States and Canada in the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries /
Gale Research Co., c1981-
Pub Place: Detroit, Mich. : ISBN: 0810310996 ISSN: 07368267
There are two references in the Library of Congress to the Skordas book:

Published/Created: Baltimore, Genealogical Pub. Co., 1968.

ISBN: 0942370457
LC Control No.: 57058513

There is also another book dealing with Maryland immigration:
Type of Material: Book (Print, Microform, Electronic, etc.)
Personal Name: Hotten, John Camden, 1832-1873, ed.
Main Title: The original lists of persons of quality, emigrants, religious exiles, political rebels, serving men sold for a term of years, apprentices, children stolen, maidens pressed, and others, who went from Great Britain to the American plantations, 1600-1700. With their ages, the localities where they formerly lived in the mother country, the names of the ships in which they embarked, and other interesting particulars. From mss. preserved in the State Paper Dept. of Her Majesty’s Public Record Office, England.
Published/Created: London, 1874. New York, Empire State Book Co. [n.d.]
If your local or university library don't have any of these reference books, they may be able to obtain them through interlibrary loan, or have the information copied for you (perhaps at a small cost)
Hope this helps,
Frances
