Is it possible to find a death in N.Z when I only know a maiden name and have no idea where about in N.Z

Hello Wini,
I’m not sure what’s happening with New Zealand BDMs. I vaguely remember reading somewhere on a genealogy website years ago that they were setting up something similar to SP but I don’t know what happened there.
Here’s the page re family history searches etc.
http://www.bdm.govt.nz/diawebsite.nsf/w ... enDocument
This message has probably been on the FAQs for a couple of years:
Will birth, death and marriage records come on-line?
Births, Deaths and Marriages have completed work on converting approximately 10 million paper-based records to image/text format. Our current focus is directed towards matters of access and how this will be made available. We cannot give a specific timeframe for if, and when, this service might be available on-line
Any New Zealanders heard anything?
You could try googling the full maiden name or try worldconnect http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ or try paperspast http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast if you think the marriage happened in NZ long enough ago. You never know your luck. If you can pick up a married name there are a number of cemetery and obit sites that can be useful.

Hi Wini
No, the NZ BDMs are still searchable only on fiche. Have not heard that they are changing in the near future. If I had a maiden name and was looking for a death. I'd look first for a marriage for her and then the death under the married name (and pray she didn't remarry!).
Can I help you here - what is the name?
Fiona D

I'm currently researching Sutherland, Davidson, Baillie (Kilsyth), Wilson (Dunoon), Paton (Dunoonn) in Scotland.

SEARCHING BY MAIDEN NAME
Thanks Alan and Fiona,
I had actually put this lady on the back burner for the time being.
Her maiden name was Marshall. First name Ellen.
I have found one of her brothers deaths in Glasgow so I will see if I can get anywwhere with that angle.
I should be able to find her birth in Glasgow at least.
If I can come with anything else I will get back to you Fiona but don't bother about it just now.
Thanks wini
