Hi Zena:

In both the 1891 and 1901 census, you are able to take advantage of the newer feature 'Second person Forename'.

In 1891 a search for Alexander Davidson, aged 29-31 and Annie produces only one hit on ScotlandsPeople.

The 1901 search for Alexander Davidson, aged 39-41 and Annie produces 3 hits.

Hope these are the records you are searching.

Frances

Still trying to find Annie and Alexander in 1891 & 1901. Haven't found a death for Annie in Scotland yet either.

Later -

I think I've found another two sisters, Isabella (married to Walter Grieve) and Margaret, living at Dunoon in 1891.

Hello again Zena,

A couple of questions.

What was Alexander's address when he married?

Do you know names and birth years for any of Alexander and Annie's children?

Regards,
Annette

Alexander Davidson & Annie McCulloch..?

Post by Jack » Fri Jun 13, 2008 1:23 am

Hi Zena,
Earlier my train of thought was also following Annette's...who is also up late...!
It was odd that Alexander & Annie seemed to be missing in 1891 & 1901...
...that's why i was going to ask about children too.
--
Do you know what happened to Alexander & Annie?
If not, could this be them Iowa, USA?
Pity no 1890 US census to look at.
A few things going for them to be possible candidates.
Alexander in 1900 says born Dec 1860.
...IGI, in error, has your Alex's surname as David, b. 26 Dec 1860 Wiston...
...same as where Annette has him in 1861 (Ancestry error: shd be 3mos?) & 1881.

Annie (as Anna) says born Aug 1865...your Annie was b. 3 Aug...but in 1863.
...has Annie just been knocking a couple of years off her age?
The 1900 census says they were married 15yrs ago. ie 1885 - that fits.
Both children have the forenames of Alexander's & Annie's mothers.
Brief details below on these censuses.
--
1900 census. Concord Township, Woodbury, Iowa.
Alex. DAVIDSON, head, b. Dec 1860, age 39, marrd 15 yrs, b Scotland, Immigrated 1889, occ. Farming,
Anna DAVIDSON, wife, b. Aug 1865, age 34, marrd 15 yrs, b. Scotland, 2 children, both living.
Lizzie DAVIDSON, daur, b Sep 1891, age 8, --------------- b Iowa.
Katie DAVIDSON, daur, b. Sep 1891, age 8, ---------------b Iowa.

John PATTISON, servant, b Dec 1877, age 25, single, b Iowa.
--
1910 census. America Township, Plymouth, Iowa.
Alexander DAVIDSON, head, 49, b Scotland, Immigrated 1890, occ. Farmer.
Annie DAVIDSON, wife, 45, b Scotland, 2 children, both living.

--
Elizabeth Davidson, 19, boarder, Stenographer, in Souix City, Woodbury, Iowa.
Katherine Davidson, 19, boarder, Stenographer, in Le Mars, Plymouth, Iowa.

Elizabeth looks quite good as both parents are as born Scotland, but....
Katherine i'm very unsure of as it says father b. England & mother New York...
--
1920 census. Le Mars Township, Le Mars City, Plymouth, Iowa.
Alexander DAVIDSON, head, 59, b Scotland, occ. ??i'm unsure.
Anna DAVIDSON, wife, 56, b Scotland.

--
There's a possible Elizabeth (Woodke) 29, in Le Mars 1920, wife of Cloyd.
But Katie is again inconclusive...
--
1930 census. America Township, Le Mars City, Plymouth, Iowa.
Alexander DAVIDSON, head, 69, b Scotland, occ. Bailiff, Court House.
Annie DAVIDSON, wife, 66, b Scotland.

--
Probably more to be found by doing some more research...
...immigration records?

Alexander Davidson & Annie McCulloch..?

Post by Jack » Fri Jun 13, 2008 4:30 pm

Hi Annette,
A good find. :D
Which leads to Katherine in the 1920 census as married to Rudolph Bartels.
Ancestral file also states that Elizabeth was married to Cloyd Woodke.
--
I notice there are other submitters...
...but they have Katherine & Elizabeth as both born < Scotland > 23 Sep 1890.
