I have been looking for David Walker in the 1901 census for some time, just to complete the set (every census from 1841-1891 and death in 1908) and to try and work out another sister. He was born in 1831 and all the other census and death cert are consistent. He was living in 15 John Street in the 1891 census and this was also his address when he died. I have tried every combination of mistranscription I can think of ??? Today I looked in Ancestry and to my surprise found the following
Name: David C Walker
Age: 68
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1833
Relationship: Head
Gender: Male
Where born: Paisley, Renfrewshire
Registration Number: 573/1
Registration district: Paisley
Civil Parish: Paisley
County: Renfrewshire
Address: 15 John Street
Occupation: Hand Loom Weaver
ED: 3
Household schedule number: 34
Line: 10
Roll: CSSCT1901_204
My missing record. However can I find it in Scotlandspeople?....NO!!
Any suggestions would be welcome as I would really like to look at the image - maybe I am being really stupid.

Hi ,
As you have the details of the transcript of the census have you tried contacting SP to see why it is not on their system ?
It could just have been overlooked. In the past they have been very good in e-mailing me things like missing RCE's etc.
Worth a try.

Hi Demon
On SP with a wee help from wildcards, there is a David C Walsh in 1901, aged 68 at PAISLEY, RENFREW (at 573/01 ) - looks too tempting to me!
Probably a mistranscription. Let us know if it's him. If so, you should send a contact form to SP to let them know that it is indexed incorrectly.
Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Colin,
I have taken a quick peek at the census page on SP. The writing is feint and fades out across the surname to the point that I wouldn't like to prove that it is, or is not the right person. Given the co-incidence of the other details, I would be very surprised if it is not him.
My suggestion is that you see the page for yourself, and consider filling in a contact form on ScotlandsPeople telling them that the name is illegible. Normally they will take a photocopy from the original census page and e-mail it to you. That photocopy is normally more legible for thin or feint writing as it is grey scale rather than black or white only. It should be able to confirm for you whether or not this is the man you are seeking. If on that copy the name is definitely Walker, then ask them to amend their index. They are always pleased to make their index more accurate.
All the best,
AndrewP

Bingo! Thanks very much Lesley, just goes to show you can never take anything for granted.
Sadly no further info. as he was living on his own. This one has always been a slight mystery as he seems to have seperated from his wife who died in this year. Got most of the likely info now so all I can do is speculate.
Thanks again and I will send a contact form to SP.
