Seeking data on the children of John LOCKHART (b. c 1860, Sorbie) and Maggie THOMSON or THOMPSON (seen with both spellings) (b. c 1861, Sorbie) who married 01 July 1881, Wigtown.
They had at least one daughter Elizabeth May (b. 26 Jun 1904, Whithorn, Wigton, d. 11 Oct 1949, Dunedin). Family lore tells of other siblings; Kathryn (Catherine?), a brother (name unknown) and perhaps an Elizabeth. I am unsure when the family emigrated to NZ other than it was following Elizabeth's birth.
It is the unknown brother I am particularly interested in. When Elizabeth died, an NZ newspaper Intimation appeared from "Rose, sister-in-law, of Waikouaiti" which is a small town within the city limits of Dunedin. This appears to indicate the brother had pre-deceased Elizabeth.
If I locate his name, I should be able to locate his death and burial and those of "Rose".
Thank you.

Hi Jim,
This family are easily found in the 1891 and 1901 censuses on ScotlandsPeople or Ancestry. Search for John Lockhart in Sorbie, Wigtownshire.
In 1891 he is there with Maggie and five children (plus a visiting child, surname Lockhart - a cousin of their five?). In 1901, the youngest two of these children are at home with the parents and three siblings born since the 1891 census.
Catherine is one of the two offspring that shows up on both censuses. As you already have Elizabeth of 1904, you know there is at least one child born after the 1901 census. So that gives you at least 9 children (5 girls and 4 boys) to this couple. All of the children up to 1901 were born in Wigtownshire, mostly in Sorbie.
All the best,
AndrewP
