SP no image

Hi All,

Can anyone find this entry in ancestry for me as there is no image of it in SP.

5 1851 MCFARLANE ISABELLA F 14 GOVAN GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 646/00 015/00 041 No Image ORDER

Also in the entry for the same family in 1841 Partick it has
Dougald mcFarlane head 20
Margaret Chrystie wife 20
Isabella McFarlane 4
Margaret McGaw 2months
2 male lodgers

My question is - was it usual for the wife to be known by her maiden name (i have their marriage OPR of 1837) and
Can i assume Margaret McGaw is their child ? if so why McGaw and not McFarlane?

I am now clear on the children's names now, my hunch is that between 1851 and 1861 they moved to Ireland - so i will probably invest in Emeraldancestors site for the short membership. I have gone round in circles trying to find them in Scotland. The fact that the son James married in Ireland and had family there makes it more viable (i think!!).

Hi Tracey,

You may have solved the mystery of Margaret McGaw in the 1841 census. I know they had a Margaret McFarlane and i thought maybe the McGaw was a middle name of a parent, i put the variations of the age down to census error. I have been on a wild goose chase with that for a while!
It now seems like the Margaret McGaw was a different child from another family whose parents must have been out that night or on another page. You done well to find the McGaw's (hope someone is looking for them).
I have looked for the McFarlane's in 1861 to no avail - could you have a wee look for me on ancestry if you have a minute - i would be most grateful.

Hi Tracey,
Thanks for the info - there is a lot of Perth and Partick info there! As i only have them on the 1851 census it is quite possible they could have had more kids after 1851 i.e Helen and John. Maybe Dougald had died or was working away. If you wouldn't mind do you see anything like them in 1871?

It may be worth checking SP for deaths now or even the possible marriage of daughter Isabelle to William Thomson to see the parents are still alive and if any siblings are witnesses. Are there any likely potentials in what has been posted so far to make it easier to narrow them down ?
