Donaldson,s from Rathven and Fordyce.....

You would think i have something better to do on a Saturday night but sadly not !

This is my Donaldson Line and if any of you have a connection to it i would like to hear from you if only to staighten out what i have as you all know they were not very imaginitive in naming their children !

James Donaldson m Isobel Moggach Gt x4
William Donaldson m Mary Shaw Gtx3
William Donaldson m Jane Hartley Gtx2
William Hartley Donaldson Gtx1..............................................
didnt marry my gt grandmother but had 2 children with her. He could have had many more being a seaman but i will have to do a posting on him alone !

The IGI produces some results for this family line, but leaves a number of significant gaps.

and their children
  • JAMES DONALDSON - Christening: 28 JAN 1805 Rathven, Banff, Scotland
    JEAN DONALDSON - Christening: 26 JAN 1806 Rathven, Banff, Scotland
    JANNET DONALDSON - Christening: 09 JUL 1809 Rathven, Banff, Scotland
    HELEN DONALDSON - Christening: 21 SEP 1811 Rathven, Banff, Scotland

    Jessie Donaldson - Birth: 1812 Rathven, Banff, Scotland (LDS submission)
The next generation?
  • WILLIAM DONALDSON and MARY SHAW
    Marriage: 03 SEP 1844 Kilmallie, Argyll, Scotland
Can this really be them? They seem a fair distance from home, looking at the couples above and below.

The next generation?
  • WM. DONALDSON and JANE SHAW
    Marriage: 14 AUG 1870 Elgin, Moray, Scotland
The only children on the online IGI (up to 1875) to such a couple appears to be to another couple of the same names in south-west Scotland. They produced 3 children before 1870 - unlikely (although not impossible) to be the correct couple.

The next generation are too recent to appear on the IGI extracts.

children so far.................
Jean b 1806 Rathven
Jessie b 1812
Andrew b 1815 Ireland
William b 1819 Cullen Banff married Mary Shaw

William Donaldson and Mary Shaw did marry in Kilmallie 1844.
children so far
1. Betsy b c1856
2. Maggie b c1858
3. Peter b 25th March 1860
4. Alexander b 2nd February 1863 and
5. William b 25TH April 1847 in Rathven Banff

William b 1847 m Jane Hartley 14 Aug 1870 Elgin
They had three children born in England
Jane 1872 Nottingham
William Hartley b 1874 Chapel en le Frith - my gt grandfather.
Mary Isabel 1877 Morley Leeds.
What become of these children after 1906 i have no idea.
