I now have 2 census entries which appear to be the same family - any suggestions/advice as to how this may have happened (if it is the same family?) would be much appreciated. I have downloaded the Croy image & it is broken into the groups as given

Piece: SCT1841/94 Place: Croy & Dalcross -Inverness-shire Enumeration District: 4
Civil Parish: Croy And Dalcross Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: -
Folio: 4 Page: 2
Address: Crocknafad

FRASER Duncan M 28 Agricultural Labourer Y
FRASER Catharine F 25 Y
JOHNSTON Janet F 17 Y
JOHNSTON Donald M 15 N
JOHNSTON William M 13 N
JOHNSTON Christy F 9 N

Previous household is:
Address: Lower Muckovy
JOHNSTON Donald M 50 Agricultural Labourer N
JOHNSTON Janet F 40 Y

CAMERON Mary F 80 Y

Alternate Entry
Piece: SCT1841/95 Place: Daviot & Dunlichity -Inverness-shire Enumeration District: 5
Civil Parish: Daviot & Dunlichity Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: -
Folio: 5 Page: 14
Address: Moor Of Culloden

JOHNSTON Donald M 50 Agricultural Labourer N
JOHNSTON Janet F 40 Y
JOHNSTON Janet F 17 N
JOHNSTON Donald M 15 N
JOHNSTON William M 13 N
JOHNSTON Christian F 9 N

Being Croy parish was on the border Nairn/Inverness, the only difference seems to be a slight change as to whether born in/out of the county for a couple of the children and Christian/Christy.

I can find the children only once on the IGI and SP (Christian missing or recorded as Margaret).

Hi Trish,

It does look like the enumerators were uncertain of where the parish boundary was and they were enumerated twice, once in each parish. I have heard of the like before. It looks like Crocknafad and Lower Muckovy (and more?) may also have collectively been known as Culloden Moor crofts.

All the best,

Many thanks Andrew - I wonder if the family were visiting Grandmother - but may never know for sure. There don't seem to be any other duplications nearby that I can find.
