From a death certificate & various other pieces of information I have a
Celia/Cecilia McGilvroy born c. 1829 parents given as Duncan McGilvroy (Tailor) and Isabel Murray. The death certificate says she came from Edinburgh. I instantly found this marriage on the IGI
Isabella Murray father Nicholas Murray, married Duncan McGilvrie 20 Nov 1814 Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian
On an immigration record, her name was Celia McGillivray
The only person I may have found in 1841 is Duncan - but there are 2 Duncan McGilvroys in Edinburgh, both Tailors and of an age. I cannot find a baptism for Cecilia on the IGI or SP. Then again, I only see one Duncan on Freecen - but no family members
SP finds me 2 baptisms
27/04/1817 MACGILLAY ALEXANDER DUNCAN MACGILLAY/ISABELLA MURRAY
01/01/1833 MCGILLAWAY DUNCAN DUNCAN MCGILLAWAY/ISABELLA MURRAY (this one has CROSSED OUT written under the parent names)
Both in Edinburgh City - Neither has an image available.
If anyone can find any of these folks - in particular Cecilia in 1841 or 51 much appreciated. Cecilia came to Australia in 1853. A James of similar name came out in 1855 and was on the same ship as Cecilia's husband to be. They could perhaps be siblings

I have no idea how you found that (or perhaps how I missed it) - but thank you so much - She looks a little too old, (perhaps I was too limited with the age search) but may have increased the age because she was working (or the employers did same!)
James was listed as 26 in 1855, so it seems very possible. The family seems to have well split, perhaps the mother died before 1841.
thank you for your help - I will go and check again

I found her by putting in :
mcgilvary with phonetic search on
cecilia in 1841
She was the only 1 that came up [apart from a McAlpine?!]
McGilvary is a terrible name to be searching for - the variations are endless!
FreeCen didn't come up with any possibles in 1851, but I couldn't even find the family she worked for then so perhaps that part isn't complete yet.

Many thanks Wilma and Annette
The surname does have variations! - on SP I just look for m*cgil* which may miss some as well. No wonder my given name searches on ancestry didn't return a find. I checked Celia & Cecilia but not Melia
I am thinking she may have lied about her age in Australia - I should have remembered that my gg grandmother lost 10 years on her trip across the world
No doubt others did similar.
thank you for the assistance
