Hi Steiner,
Welcome to Talking Scot! [talkingscot]

Do you know where the children were born? Is that where you got John's occupation information? The only family I'm seeing that more or less matches your query has 6 children: Janet, Robert, Eleard, James, William and John, but father John is an Iron Stone Miner.

Maybe if you tell us exactly what information you already have and where it came from, we can figure this out :D

All the best,
Sarah

Hi steiner
Can anyone with access to census search on surname and occupation find John Crawford the slater and /or chimney sweep?and family
You can access the census data online at a number of places - there is freecen at www.freecen.org.uk (free, not all transcribed yet)
The Scottish census can be searched and the original census pages can be viewed at Scotlands People, (a pay per view site)
...and the indexes and transcriptions (not the original images) can be accessed at Ancestry. ( subscription - but free to use in many libraries), so if you have access to a PC, you have access to the census!

Best wishes
Lesley
