Hi Jan
Tramner 2 Boys & 2 Shiprents Scholar
Two quesitons
1. Where have you seen this? Is it on a census? If so, where & what year? In order to help it is useful to know the context.
2. (I think I know the answer to this one...) Did you find it on Ancestry?

My guess would be that it is an occupation (Tramner - what ever that has been originally, I suspect we are dealing with an Ancestry transcription here....) followed by the fact that this person employed 2 boys and 2 something-elses. You would really need to see the original, not rely on a transcription, to know what was written.

Best wishes
Lesley

Ah, so as anticipated, it is a census, and it is an Ancestry transcription and it is in Tradeston.
Still don't know what year?

I can't even guess what it might be, though someone else may be more inspired...I'd need to see the original census page, I think, to be sure what it says. You can find the original census page at Scotlands People if you need it.

Best wishes

This is obviously a garbled Ancestry transcription. You will have to download the actual image from Scotland's People in order to see what it actually says, I'm afraid. Then you can start asking questions about the occupation. Until then, we can't know what it could be.

Sarah

Unfortunately, we are unable to display the accompanying images of this census at present, despite extensive negotiation with the General Register Office for Scotland. Permission from them has not, as yet, been forthcoming. For this reason, and to enable you to continue with your family history research, Ancestry has heavily transcribed the Scottish Census records to ensure you have access to all key areas of information contained within this collection.

As I said, you'll have to download the image from SP. None of us can see any more than what you are seeing. Ancestry is just an index, and suffers from having been transcribed by a machine, we suspect.

Hi Jan
The Ancestry transcriptions are well known around here for coming up with very creative and not very accurate occupations (and addresses too sometimes)

It may well be that the employer of the 2 boys and the 2 whatever-elses is the baker, BUT the only way to really know what it says is to see the ORIGINAL census page, from SP. Otherwise we are only guessing.

Best wishes
Lesley
