Census help please

Trying to tidy up more lose ends.......................

Elspet Geddes was born in Gamrie in 1839. She had an illigitimate son William Geddes in 1862 Gamrie ( he is known as William Geddes Leddingham). On Williams marriage and death he names parents as married, John Ledingham being the father. There is no marriage on SP.

I cant find Elspet on any census past 1851. I have tried every variation i can think of and have had no luck so far.

Son William is accounted for.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Was she in the Gamrie area in 1841 & 51?

There are three showing on SP in 1861 as follows:
ELSPET GEDDES age 23 DESKFORD, BANFF
ELSPET GEDDES age 23 RATHVEN, BANFF 164/00 005/00 008
ELSPET GEDDES age 23 RATHVEN, BANFF 164/00 005/00 005

have you've checked these ones already?

Yes she was in Gamrie with her parents.

Added.............. She is the only one of nine siblings i cant account for

Sorry Lesley, just going over old searches.
The first one in Deskford is the closest as her mother is a Sim and head of house is a William Sim who i cant place in the immeditate family. But her birth place is put as Fordyce - so what !. The other two i think from memory do not have Gamrie as birth place and A.... doesnt have them to hand to quickly check either.

Maybe you know this Tracey but........The Elspet (now Elsie) who says she was born at Fordyce is still alive in 1891 and living at Fordyce. She also had an illegitimate daughter, Ann, in 1864.

Would it be worth checking her death entry to see if it gives her parents names?

Hi Annette

This child Ann Geddes / Campbell - i cant check the signatures on her birth as a clue on this as her (Elspets) mother Mary signed Williams birth.

So far i have found no obvious death on SP for Elspet or Elsie Geddes b 1836 + - 10 years.

There is an Elsie who died in Marnoch 1917 aged 79 - it was signed by her neice Jessie Ross.

There is also an Ann Campbell who married a James Stephen in 1897 Fordyce, parents James Campbell - Farmer and Elsie Geddes - char woman. One of the witnesses was a Jessie Ross

None of Elspets siblings married a Ross but, i have found an 1891 census with a 10 year old Jessie Ross with parents John and Maggie Ross and and 80 year old grandmother called Ann Geddes born in Morayshire so if this the same Jessie it is not my Elspet
