WHAT DOES "P.P." MEAN?

Post by stepmars » Sat May 16, 2009 2:22 am

I've found an entry in the 1841 census for a "Jean Mitchell P.P." Can anyone shed light on what the initials "P.P." stand for?
Thanks,
Steve

Steve, could PP be for Parish Pauper, a common entry in census?

Hello Steve,

If you go to FreeCen http://freecen.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl and search 1841 in a particular County for an occupation P* P* (with a space) you’ll get some interesting results.

I think I’d put my money on David’s suggestion.

Parish pauper looks likely. Many thanks!
