1851 census st cuthberts edinburgh

Post by steiner » Mon Sep 28, 2009 10:22 am

While searching for a Hugh Home and family on Scotlandspeople I found an entry but when viewing the page it came up as "page missing".

Anyone got access to an alternative?

thanks

Had a look at Ancestry and he's not coming up there either (unless it's been mistranscribed). Was he born around 1830 at Edinburgh and his wife Elizabeth?

That's right he married Elizabeth in 1856.

I've got him in the 1841 - but not tried 1861

1861 2 Darling Buildings, St Cuthberts -

Hugh Home 31 Assistant Clerk in Chanery (I assume this is Chancery)
Elizabeth Home 26
Ann Home 58 Mother born Paisley
Mary McKay 16
John Home 4
Louis Home 2
George Home 3 Mo

Still at St Cuthberts in 1871 and 1881 with many additions to the family.

Annette

Hi

Regarding the census entry for 1861 below. Could someone check that Ann's birthplace is Paisley AND not Perth?

1861 2 Darling Buildings, St Cuthberts -

Hugh Home 31 Assistant Clerk in Chanery (I assume this is Chancery)
Elizabeth Home 26
Ann Home 58 Mother born Paisley
Mary McKay 16
John Home 4
Louis Home 2
George Home 3 Mo

thank you

Andy

Hi Andy,
On the 1861 transcription, it definitely says her birthplace is Paisley, Renfrewshire. To look at the actual image will cost credits for anyone, so you should be the one to do it if you want to see the original.

Do you have her in other censuses with a birthplace of Perth? It wouldn't be the first time that the birthplace was incorrectly given on a census!

All the best,
Sarah

Thanks Sarah.

I finally found the page for the 1851 census with help from Scotlandspeople. In 1851, it is given as Perth.
