James Livingston 1871 .....

Looking for help.

I've just posted to the Gallery and wonder if someone has any idea what is written after "1 Livingston's Houses" in the address. The same word/letters also appear further down the Censu form.

I've just posted a reply in your other post.

If you look at the occupations of both the heads where this is written then I think you'll find it stands for Public House.

Thanks for your thoughts. I still hesitate between Pit House, Pub House and something else.

James was a Spirit dealer, who, his will tells me, owned land and property but his eldest son was a Coal Master. I've just realised that, in 1 Watson's Houses lived a Thomas WATSON while in 1 Livingston's Houses lived a James LIVINGSTON. and wonder if that is coincidence or has some signification. Will need to get a look at the Census Pages before and after.

I'd been thinking the same as Annette because of the occupations.

Do you have the census number? I could have a look at the original film once the Mitchell re-opens.

If you look dwon at the other similar entry at the bottom, I'd be near certain that is "Pub", and, bingo!, again the Head is a Spirit-Dealer.

Admittedly, all the 5 houses in between have Coal Miner "Heads".

What can one say more but that miners are renowned for their thirst !

Well, Jack, my pc tells me that the sun will be shining in a cloudless sky tomorrow. It's keepin' the rain for Friday. (Just as well as I've planned an outing in a boat amongst other things for the grandkids tomorrow)
