Who were her parents and what was her occupation when she married? Do you know where she was born?steiner wrote:Looking for a Margaret Brown born 1858, Glasgow and at the time of Marriage in 1881 - gave address as Partick. Anyone in the census aged 21-25 in that area?

Re: 1881 CENSUS PARTICK
Sorry Annette no parents detials or occupation I'm afraid. Details come from relative who has no other or further info. Apparently she was born in Glasgow and was 23 in 1881. Grace Street, Partick was mentioned long ago in family discussions but no documents with that address on it. Hoping there's not many Margaret Brown's in Partick between 21 and 25 years of age.

The closest is a Margaret Brown born 1859 at Dumfries. She was working as a table maid for Lamont family at Partick.
Info from her marriage entry would definitely help.

Annette

Hi Annette - Sorry for delay in reply.
On her marriage certif she gave parents as "John Brown, miner and a Jane Gillan both deceased. However, on her death certificate where husband, John Carrick, was informant the parents are John Brown and a Margaret Ferguson. A wee bit strange. On the marriage cert her job is given as a bleachfield ?
Incidentally, one of John and Margaret's children was named Mary Ferguson Carrick

There is a Margaret Brown, bleacher boarding at Douglas St, Partick in 1881 but age is a bit out at 18. She states she was born at Hamilton which would work with her father being a miner. Not finding an appropriate birth at the moment.steiner wrote:Hi Annette - Sorry for delay in reply.

Had a look at an old map for Douglas Street and it runs adjacent to Castlebank Street where the Bleach Works were.
