Illegible address
Grateful for help in deciphering an address in the 1891 census, Wardlaw area of Rutherglen. The family I am interested in were living at 2 ----eville Place. Next address on the census is Farmloan Rd if that helps. Anyone any ideas on what the street name is?

Hi Elwyn,
Have you had a look at the free header pages for that census district? These pages usually include a listing of the streets included in that enumeration book, so may have a more legible version of the street name.
All the best,
AndrewP

Hi Elwyn,
Looking at Ancestry and then Google, it looks like it should be Lizzieville Place.

Hi Elwyn,
Farmloan Road can be seen on the 1890s street maps on the NLS digital map website, but no sign of Lizzieville Place. It could be just of the edge of the map - the limit of where was surveyed for that series of map.
A modern map shows Farmeloan Road, Rutherglen, so you can at least get an idea of where the area is for Lizzieville Place.

Re: Illegible address
Lizzieville Place is mentioned in the Edinburgh Gazette in 1904 in regard to supply of electricity to Rutherglen, see top of second column. It’s a bit vague but to do with breaking up of roads including “Passage off east side of Farmeloan Road at Lizzieville Place to Millar and Carlyle Terraces;”

Many thanks to all of you. Lizzieville fits perfectly. We have solved that one.
