1891 census .....

This isn't strictly a question on the 1891 census as such but refers to a problem I have with information from it.
In 1891 my greatgrandfather PATRICK CASEY and his wife MARY JANE DONALDSON were enumerated in Motherwell (Dalziel) with four of their seven children. The two eldest children had been born in Northern Ireland, and the next three in Glasgow (High Church), but the two youngest CATHERINE CASEY 14 and JOHN CASEY 11 have the census entry:
Where Born? Lanarkshire, Newton.
Where is Newton? I have found the births of the other five children (even the two in Newry, Co Down), but cannot find the two youngest. I have had no luck on Scotlandspeople. can anyone suggest a way forward, please?
(birth years approx 1877 and 1880).

Search for Newton, South Lanarkshire and you'll find the place. It lies roughly between Biggar and Abington.

Could this be it?
Its not my side of the country so someone else may know more.

Thanks for the replies. I suspect that the Newton I want is the one between Cambuslang and Uddingston. They were gradually making their way to Motherwell.
However, still doesn't help me find John and Catherine on SP, short of paying my way through all the digitised images, no matter where they were registered. I know that Catherine existed - I knew her daughter!, but it's John I would really like to track down. All I know is that he was 11 in 1891, 21 in 1901. Family history has is that he then became a priest, possibly in Ireland, and joined a parish in Ireland, later being shot by the Black and Tans around 1922 for giving the last rites to a dying man on the street.
Makes a change from the other rellies on both sides that were fished out of the Clyde but that's another story.
If anyone has anything to suggest re the way forward, I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance.

Slightly linked

You dont by any chance have a John Casey Ann Philips who had a son Francis anywhere in your info ? Your pattern is similar to mine ...........parents born Ireland doesnt say where, children born Ireland Glasgow and England................and as you know looking for Casey,s from Ireland who have children Patrick, Francis, John ect..........is like trying to remove the milk from your coffee after youve put it in.

No harm in asking

and the Donaldson name on my list wasnt connected to Casey then !

No, I don't have an Ann Philips anywhere BUT!! my Donaldson was married to a Casey.

My GreatGrandfather PATRICK CASEY married MARY JANE DONALDSON in Newry Co Down/Co Armagh (it seems to have moved a bit over the years). Had their first two sons, Peter and Daniel, in Newry and then moved to Scotland where they had the other five. The JOHN I'm looking for is their youngest child.

I dont think there would be any connection through my Donaldson side. My grandfather who was Donaldson married my grandmother Dorothy Casey so if anywhere they would be her side. If i get started on this side i will keep a look out

John, Where did you get these? doing a wildcard on SP? I'm all out of credits so will have to melt the plastic again to check them but will have to wait until tomorrow. Thanks so much. even if it proves another red herring it still gives me hope tonight!!

Hello Annpa,

the likely districts were Cambuslang, Blantyre, Bothwell, and Dalziel. I selected all of those (hold down CTRL and click on each - you can select up to 5), then searched on surname Cas* between 1875 and 1881.

If that had failed, other options were to try Cais* and Ka*.

They are definitely yours: I looked at the entries.
