1911 census

Post by steiner » Tue Apr 03, 2012 2:21 pm

Don't know if anyone can help?

I've been looking for a Robert Bach born 1858 in Edinburgh. I found him in all censuses from 1861-1901 inclusive.

However, 1911 seems a complete blank.

He died in 1914 at Craiglockhart Poorhouse, Edinburgh. I have the death certificate - but don't know where he is buried.

I've tried searching on various surname spellings but no avail. Maybe he was in the poorhouse in 1911 under a mis-spelt name?

Any ideas or help welcomed. Thanks

Drew

Entering b*c* robert age 52-53 Midlothian gives 6 hits, which might be worth a look.

There were ten hits using b*ck but those disappeared when I added Midlothian.

Thank you Frances.

Tried the combinations and several others but still no joy - costing me a lot of credits on scotlandspeople. He was a housepainter - wish they had an option for occupation search!

Hi Drew,

There is no obvious sign of him in the poorhouse in the 1911 census. To narrow the search results down to Craiglockhart Poorhouse, you can use 'Advanced Search' with search criteria rdno:677 && enumdist:010. That translates to registration district number 677 (Colinton), enumeration district 10 (Craiglockhart Poorhouse). I searched for all people with first name Robert in rdno:677 && enumdist:010 and got 22 results. The two that I considered worth a look were Robert Bell and Robert Buchan. Alas neither was a house painter from Edinburgh.

All the best,

AndrewP
