The Lost boy - again
Hello All
I would be very grateful for any help on how to forward a find on FMP:
John C PRICE departed 16 April 1908 from Liverpool going to port of Quebec, Canada and passenger destination Quebec, Canada. No Birth, No Age, Single, Male, Occ: Lab.
Ship: Corsican
Official No: 124191
Master Name: E Antram
Steamship Line: Allan Line Steamship Co Ltd
Where Bound: Montreal, Canada
Passengers on voyage: 1212
This would fit with my lost boy who was in the 1901 Census but can't be found in 1911.
I have just finished my month Ancestry sub looking for him without any success and have newly joined FMP foundation sub. I got this item on some pay per view points I had left when I paid my foundation sub and that level of sub just gives me BMD and Census.
I don't know where to look for any details of this chap entering Quebec which might give his age and birthplace.
He was born 1884 in Pontypool but given his workhouse upbringing I wonder if he is certain of his dob and origins?
Any help would be so welcome.
Regards
Lorna

Hi Lorna
The easiest way is via Ancestry. Library and Archives Canada have the passenger lists as virtual microfilms at http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/data ... 0.01-e.php. The problem is you have to step through them one image at a time and with 1212 passengers could take some time although there are only 41 pages. The passenger lists at this time do not give the birthplace only the Country of birth.

1911 Canadian census shows a John Price age 26 born Wales living at Durham, Ontario. His year of immigration is shown as 1910 though with a Scottish wife and a daughter born in England. He gives his month of birth as August.

Hello Lorna,
Because he would have been of military age for WW1 it may be worth browsing through the Canadian Army records. Most of them should have Attestation Forms with place of birth etc. http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/data ... 0.01-e.php

Actually Lorna I've changed my mind about the one in 1911 as I think your guy was born in December.

Hi all,
On the Corsican in April 1908 is Jno Price, age 24, occupation: Steward, going to join Robt F Sharpe in… something that looks like "L'Onnonville P.I., Quebec" but I can't find any real place that looks like that at all. I tried looking for Robert Sharp(e) in Quebec in 1911, but none of the addresses looks plausible. Still, that one is the right age at least!
All the best,
Sarah

Re: The Lost boy - again
Thank you all so much.
Meg and Eric: That Nanaimo FH site is good. It gave John’s age which tallies exactly and through the link to the collections Canada I have sent a message asking if they can give me any help re establishing whether this is the John C Price b. Pontypool 1884.
Annette: John was born 10 Sep 1884 so unfortunately not the family man but on my way to study that census link
Alan: Had a search of your WWI site but unfortately (or maybe not?) he does not seem to be there. Great records. I may well use that for another branch of the family
Sarah: Absolutely the right age Sarah (thank you for sending me the image) and maybe someone with Quebec knowledge may come along who knows the address. Funny he was a labourer on the boat manifest but a Steward when he arrived in Quebec . Career change in 10 days!
I am getting a tad dry mouthed and excited about this chap (Gran's little brother) as I have been looking for him for years. Is the brick wall trembling?
Great to have so much generous co-operation on tap, thank you all again.

Hi
I see that a line of Robert F Sharpes have been around in Quebec from 1870s until the present day. The googled entries found seem to point to them being involved in business so perhaps John could have put down the name of his employer and a company address?

Re: The Lost boy - again
Hello Folks
While having another google re this lad I came upon a list which calls itself "Dusty Docs" and comes under the umbrella of Ancestry and is apparently taken from a Parish register. The following entry is of interest to me:
Saturday, October 10, 1903, Elizabeth Ann, Price, , d, John Charles, Price, Emily , Price, 33 Gwent Street Pontypool, collier, Wednesday, September 10, 1902
Would anyone know what the "d" stands for (died or daughter of, perhaps?)
JCP's mother was Ann Elizabeth so the entry is of interest to me. If Emily is this JCP's wife I would try for a copy of the marriage register.
Regards
Lorna
