New Zealands earthquake

Post by momat » Fri Jul 26, 2013 10:23 am

Nothing to do with genealogy ,but I am curious to know how many peple around the world heard of the 6.5 earthquake that shook parts of New Zealand last Sunday.
This was a very big shake yet hardly anyone appears to have seen any newspaper reports about it.
Was the media world too intent on the arrival of a royal baby to bother ?

It did make the news here. Centred around the Wellington area?

And there was something about a birth this week - to Penelope Cruise, in Madrid. :D

All the best,

Andrew

We heard about it across the water here in Australia, and I read the Washington Post every day (well really, I do the puzzles) and they mentioned it too.

Yes, Wellington was the worst hit .I am just out on the coast around from there and it was felt in quite a wide spread area covering a fair part of the country.
They are even saying that one area has moved 5 cm to the east. Not a lot in terms of size .But it moved.
The earthquake was centred in a small town called Seddon and some smart reporter actually logged a story saying that it was in Seddon Australia.
I have family in many parts of the world and few heard of it until I emailed to say we were all okay!!

Better find somewhere safe to store all my GENEALOGY stuff.
