1851 / 1861 census Elgin / Rathven .....

Post by Tracey » Sun Sep 18, 2005 10:11 pm

Can any one look up my Donaldson,s please :D

In 1861
William head 43 ish Banff
Mary wife 40 ish
children
Elizabeth 10 b Rathven
Margaret or Mary 5 Rathven
James 3 Rathven
Peter 1 Elgin
These may be found in High Street Elgin.

If any one can find 1851 census it should include
William son b 1847 Rathven. There is a big gap in birth years between William and the next sibling b1856 and died 1856 so i dont know who else apart from William Mary and son William that would be on this one.

Many thanks

p.s there may also be a George b c1857 :?:

Hi Tracey

I am in the Library at the moment and will look at the census for you. Do you have the 1st e-mail that I sent you as you should have the death notices in the text if the e-mail and not the attachment. Both papers gave an identical notice. If you do not have it I will look it up again.

Hello Heather

Just double checked what you sent me before and the only thing relating to Jane is a poor relief application 1877 that was sent as an attachment . I did check the body of the emails and there isnt anything on them apart from you explaining whats attached. But please there is no urgency for the death notice as with all - when you can.

Yours greatfully

Hi Tracey

I have looked for then in 1851 Elgin and most of 1861 Elgin and there was no sign of the family so I will try Rathven next. I will aldso get you the death notice again and send it to you. Will be in the Library next week so I will do everything then.

Hi Heather

The closest i have to 1861 is a birth in March 1860 which puts them at 145 High Street Elgin. Looking at some of the other certificates it puts them in Rathven and Buckie in c1856 - 57 if this is any help in locating them.

Thank you for finding the time for this

Hello Heather

Just one more thing  can you check this NM036621 WILLIAM DONALDSON. Some of his details match (some of what i have isnt on there) my William NM248605 except that they have him married to Mary Shand mine was Mary Shaw and his occupation as Contractor mine Labourer also a poor relief application1863 application for poor relief to parish of Elgin - MF D EL3 [GRC archives - ZPEL A5/5 p132] as you know mine had numerous applications ! and a death, FG death 06/10/1874 3/6 which isnt on the records for my William. What did make me look at this is the death date and place.
My William died 4th October 1874 at 55 High Street Elgin and so did this one but they dont have the date of death on my one. So i am slightly confused. I did mail them recently about something i saw that was slightly wrong. Im too embarrased to mail them again about this as it looks like im being picky and im not i love the sight ! Should i be brave ? ! Im not asking you to do all the typing out of information for me as you have done more than enough in helping me just to check see if they are one and the same person.

Sorry to ask for more
