JAMES FLINN first appears at age 13 in the 1851 Scotland Census in Angus, Dunottar, Lintrathen.
He is part of a household that is headed by his father PETER FLINN (age 38 in 1851). This is the only information I have on Peter Flinn and the trail goes cold for me. Obviously he had ancestors - I heard his father was John Flinn somewhere but that's all I have.
His (Peter's) mother's side is a bit more tentatively traced out... Apparently his mother was Jean Lundie. And her parents were John Lundie and Martha Tarbert. And that's all I have.
Also in this 1851 census household, there was a woman named Janet Graham (age 52). Presumably she was just a hired hand or something - but it would be interesting to learn who she was.
In the 1881 census, there was a Catherine Nairn (age 26) now that James Flynn was the head of the household, who was also presumably a hired hand, but who might have had an interesting story.
There are a couple old photographs of members of this family, taken in this area of Scotland, by a D. Milne (Blairgowrie) and J.C. Young (Perth). I came across a thread with a few references to D. Milne (viewtopic.php?f=53&t=12918). It was interesting but didn't flesh things out a whole lot. Nothing on J.C. Young. I don't know if I'm really looking for anything by learning more about these photographers, but it could flesh out the story more, I suppose. Maybe they photographed William Wallace or something at some point...
So anyway, this is where I'm at. I think there's enough there to dig a little further and make some progress. But I'm not sure what to do next.
Thanks for your time, all those who choose to help.
