Hi,
This is for a friend of mine. Her grandmother always went by the name Nellie/Nelly, but she can't find a birth record with the name Nellie/Nelly. Would Nellie be short for another name, and if so what would that name be.
Thanks,
Ina

Re: Help with a name
Mt Granny was Nellie, but her proper name was Helen. In previous generations there were several Nellies, all from Helen, or Ellen. One aunt was Eleanor but rather than call her Nellie too, they sort of shortened the way they pronounced it to something like Elna.
