I was studying a marriage certificate from 1929 recently. As far as I could work out the groom's residence was given as Russell Coll or Colt Road in Coatbridge. I have checked out an up to date map of the area and have come across Russell Colt Street. I have become accustomed to 'interpreting' the handwriting on documents during the time I have been doing family research and I am almost certain that on the marriage certificate it says 'Road'. Does anyone know if there was a slight name change at some point or was Russell Coll or Colt Road a completely seperate address?

Doddie

Hi Doddie,
See:
http://maps.nls.uk/geo/find/#zoom=12&la ... 2&layers=6
On clicking on the map with Sunnyside in its north-east corner, three ages of map are shown in the column at the right. Click on the link of one of these and the map should show up on another tab of your internet browser.
The newer two maps show Russell Colt Street in their north-east corner. The older map has the street, but it is not named.
All the best,
AndrewP

Thanks Andrew, I followed your advice. It seems that it must have been Russell Colt Street all along. I will need to have another look at the marriage certificate when I get the chance if only to check that my eyesight isn't letting me down.
