Staying in Edinburgh (several weeks?) while researching

Post by killearnan » Fri Jan 02, 2015 4:25 am

I'm doing the first year (post-graduate certificate) of the genealogy program at the University of Strathclyde. So I'm using that as an excuse to go to Scotland  and break down some brick walls in my own research as well as do work for the program. Just bought plane tickets =D>

So now I need to find a place to stay, as the place I have stayed in the past seems to no longer be in business ~ or at least their website isn't functional. Since I want to do a bit of traveling around the research, I can be a bit flexible on dates. Likely looking at about 5 February to around 16 March (to allow time to travel at each end of a slightly longer term rental).

Even though the university is in Glasgow, most of the research I want to do will likely be in {or more accessible from} Edinburgh (since most of my ancestors were from Edinburgh, Leith, and Galashiels/Hawick), so I think I'd prefer to be there, but ~ again ~ I'm flexible :D

Need wifi (so I can keep up on the graduate work....) but I'm otherwise fairly flexible on the accommodations ~ sublet/spare room, short-term flat, a cousin of someone here at TalkingScot who runs a small B&B and would give a good price for the longer stay....Would also be glad to hear of a good, reliable real estate agent who does short term rentals.

Feel free to PM if that's better ;-)

Thanks!

There's a good train service between Glasgow & Edinburgh - every 15 mins. It also stops at Falkirk & Polmont stations so the Falkirk area could be good if you have problems finding a place to stay in either city. [we are approx half way between the 2.]

Glasgow as lots of student type accommodation - recently built for the 2014 Commonwealth games, around the city centre so excellent for transport to and fro.

My first port of call would be the University and see what they can offer.
