Hi Cathy,
I've yet to get the 1841 details [now added], and this might be your Cairney family in 1851.
But the page i looked at for the 1861 census is very faded - in fact near blank;
hopefully GROS has a much clearer copy for SP when it goes online. [legible copy now seen]

Meantime i've just given what the 1861 index says - and maybe the enumerator has got Bernard & Hugh the wrong way round? [it looks like it]
That would make more sense if it's the same family as in 1851.

Census details added

Post by Jack » Thu Sep 29, 2005 9:07 pm

Hi Cathy,
I've added the census details - the 1861 index was correct.
I nipped into the Hist Socy premises tonight to see if their copy was a wee bit clearer - it certainly was!
It does look like the same family 1841, 1851, 1861 - but with a lot of discrepancies!
