Can anyone help with Quarriers Home.....

Post by joette » Sun Oct 30, 2005 12:50 pm

I have a relie who was adopted from the Quarriers Home in Bridge of Weir in 1937.Info was that her Birth Mother was only fifteen at the time so its possible that she is still alive.
The Adoptee lives in NZ where the Adoption laws are very open to all in the triangle-Adoptee,Birth Parents& Adopters.
Anybody any idea how to start a trace for info on Natural Parents?
Researching:SCOTT,Taylor,Young,VEITCH LINLEY,MIDLOTHIAN

Please advise your rellie to have a look at http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/regscot/adoption.html for the required procedures.

On a pro bono basis I'd be more than happy to assist.

Given the date of the adoption there should be a Sherrif Court record. If your NZ rellie can give me a letter of authorisation I could have a look at this record at National Archives of Scotland, - a look only and transcriptions, - no photocopies, as that facility is restricted to the adoptee ....

Hi Joette,

Your relation should contact Quarrier Homes. Give precise details of what is known of date of birth and time spent at Bridge of Weir and ask for any file details to be sent. I have traced three orphans and was given a lot of information.
