SP shows one Rebecca Clyne died in Ayton in 1912. She's the wrong age to be your Rebecca Cleghorn but it may be worth a look for a relationship.

I notice that son, Michael states he was born in Berwick about 1857, I can't see the family in 1871 but back in 1861 there is a Michael Clyne born 1857 in Berwick but his father was Irish born, Patrick, and the mother was Ann.
Michael Clyne married Janet Oliver September Quarter of 1876 that would confirm the father's name.
A Rebecca Clyme (Clymmie) was in a Berwick workwouse in 1891 she died under the name Clyne aged 77 in March Quarter 1893
Where did you get the name Cleghorn?

There is also one birth of a Michael Clyne in Berwick for the June Quarter 1857 (Think he died aby 1906 in Newcastle).

Hi Bernie,
We keep bumping into each other on different sites.
The Ayton death connection looks promising. I found Michael's death cert under Ayton in 1882. Thought that Rebecca had died in Berwick workhouse in 1897 but the entry in the records did not mention any husband. Did they not have death certificates in England at that time?
Michael, the son, moved to Newcastle. Not sure yet if he was in Ayton at the 1891 census.
Sorry if this sounds confused but this family is making me that way!

Sorry Bernie,
Just relaxing, watching T.V. [or so I thought] when in pops Rebecca Clyne! It was daughter Rebecca [married name Collin] who died in Ayton - got the certificate. Think I'll have to have a glass of wine to help the relaxation!!

In answer to Andy's question: -
Rebecca Clyne b. c. 1815
Almost every piece of info I have on her seems to be with a different surname!!
Source 1: R.C. Church record Berwick archives - Michael Clyne b. 5 June 1857; father Michael and mother Rebecca Clyne [Dogherty].
Source 2: 1881 census she is in Eyemouth Rebecca McLean, Married, mother in law [to the head of the household, William Collin, wife Rebecca] 78yrs, born Garelockhead, Dumbarton.
Source 3: R.C. Church record Berwick archives - Rebecca Clyne died 30 Jan 1893, Berwick workhouse. Workhouse book: 28 Jan 1893, 78yrs, Berwick, Interred 31 Jan 1893. No mention of where she was born.
Source 4: 1882 Michael Clyne died Ayton "married to Rebecca Colman". His father was Michael Clyne, mother unknown.
Michael is recorded as being a general labourer but in the 1881 census his occuption was hawker so perhaps he sold coal and son Michael musn't have known her maiden name!!
No idea where we go from here!
