1841 & 1851 Help!!!!!Perthshire .....

Post by joette » Tue Dec 06, 2005 12:02 pm

Is there anybody with access to the 1841/1851 Census for Perthshire?
I am looking for my elusive Waddells/Waddle's
Alexander gives age 45 & Scoonieburn as birthplace for the 1861 Census in Dollar Clackm.
Ann his wife has just died & I am hoping to find them together in 1841/1851 & as the eldest two children in the 1861 still at home James(16)& Thomas(11) are given Perthshire & what looks like Aberuthorn as their Birthplace am hoping to track them there where hopefully will find Birthplace for Ann & other children who have left home by 1861 or that there were no older children who were in fact Aunt/Uncles of my GGRandfather.
I have tried Freecen & am frustrated at the thought of having to wait to visit Edinburgh in person or wait for 1841/1851 to come online.Any help would be gratefully recieved.

Thanks for that it could very well be that the Enumerators handwriting is a bit indistinct.
When my FH Centre finally reopens &/or the 1841/1851 comes online it will certainly make it all a bit easier.I was hoping to add this info to my Christmas gifts I am giving my Family of a Family Tree/History but I guess it will have to wait until next year.

OH YES PLEASE WITH A CHERRY ON TOP.
I am desperate to find out anything about these elusive GGGrandparents.
In the 1861 Census just weeks after his wife Ann Graham has died Alexander Waddell is listed as 45 born Scoonieburn-its listed as Scoonie Perth but I am pretty confident its Scoonieburn.
Son-James-16-Appt.Mason-Aberuthven
Son-Thomas-11-Scholar-Aberuthven.
Margeret-9-Dollar,Alex-7 Dollar,John-5(my GGrandpa.)& William -2.
Six years later he died in Dollar aged 48!!!It was a neighbour reporting the Death & no details except for naming his father as Alexander which I suspect is wrong. The Waddells were big on the naming pattern so if thats so Father would be James& Mother Margeret as there is an older sister Jean?
Ann Graham came from Auchterarder(according to my GGrandpa)Her parents were Thomas Graham-Ploughman & Isabella Black.
My Mother would be thrilled as she has searched for any trace for over thirty years.
What kind of area is Aberuthven? I dont know Perthshire very well despite having two sides of the Family originating there.

No despite oftimes searching I have never seen that one.Sounds about right with the dates & names of parents, place of Birth etc(or am I wrong in assuming that Scoonieburn/Scone are close?)Maybe it is Scone & the enumerator got it wrong!UNusual I know!!!!!!!!!
Three before he was christened now I'm wondering why. Thanks there is nothing on the OPR to confirm but it could be him.
I will be going to Kew in Jan. do you need any lookups there?

Try this link

http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi? ... 000&icon=x

See if it works, If not go to www.multimap.com and just keep zooming in on the Perth area.

Sconieburn is South of Perth just before the turn off on the A912 to Tarsappie, Scone and Old Scone are on the North side of Perth.

Hope this gives you an idea of the location, Sconieburn looks North over the Tay and Perth (Great View)

Thanks for that info I think George may be Alexanders brother. The names ages of the children are similiar too which is a common theme for the Waddell's.
Also the male children including my Great-Grandfather & a couple of the brother-in-laws were Master Masons.
My G-Grandfather made his own gravestone which alas was destroyed in the 1968/7? storm but I vageuly remember it.He made it for his infant daughter wee Annie who died of Whooping Cough aged two carved his,his wifes names but left space for the dates.
